Tonge aims for return as Moore continues player search

Tonge was injured in the Millers game with Macclesfield in March and the injury turned out to be a broken bone in his foot, he hopes the X-ray means he can have the protective boot he has worn removed.

The players start pre-season training this Thursday and Dale told The Star: "I'm going to have another X-ray next week but I've got my fingers crossed that it will be good news and that I can start pre-season with the boys.

"I can't describe how frustrating it has been, especially having to watch the team at Wembley.

"I was absolutely gutted for the boys at what happened in the final but we have to be positive and go for automatic promotion this term. I feel I have got a lot to prove to Ronnie. I don't think he has seen the best of me since he took charge and I'm hoping I can show him what I'm capable of this season.

"I want to show Ronnie that I am a good player and that I am worthy of a place in the side. My first aim is to get a good pre-season under my belt."

Meanwhile boss Moore has admitted he was persuing midfield duo Matt Spring and Stephen Dawson before their moves to Leyton Orient.

He is also tracking Aberdeen midfielder Gary McDonald.
