Staunton eyeing Millers job

Last updated : 10 September 2009 By Bigrich.....
40 year oldf Staunton has applied for the managers job with the Millers as he looks to end his 2 year excile from football management since leaving the Republic of Irelandback in 2007.

He has kept his hand in the game and told the Star; "At the moment I'm scouting for Wolves, and helping with their under 16 side. It keeps you involved with the game, keeps your hand in, but I'd really like to get back into management."

"Of course, I'm looking to get back into management and I wouldn't dismiss anything at the moment," he added.

"I've kept in touch with all the English divisions, but I've been looking at League One and League Two a lot more than the Premier League and Championship. There are a lot of strong squads in those leagues."

Staunton gave his ideas should he get the job; "At that level, it is really important to utilise the loan system - it's part and parcel of management at lower league clubs. Players can make a big impact and not cost much, if anything at all - it's a win-win situation for all."

"Of course I'd be interested in the Rotherham job, they've got a strong squad of good players, and are riding high at the moment - they've got a very strong chance of going up." he added.
