Karl Battersby the Councils strategic director of Environment and Development Services spoke to the Advertiser saying that the council will be buying the 10.85 acre old Guest & Chrimes site from the owners Evans of Leeds.

The intended date for the deal to go through is on or around the 8th of May. Mr Battersby said: "It's good for council taxpayers, good for the club, and good for the future prosperity of Rotherham."

"Among other things, it could mean a lot more business for local retailers and other town-centre businesses."

"Most immediately, it's good for Millers' fans and it is a big stride towards realising their dreams of bringing the club home."

"We just want to get on now, together with the club and Evans, with the job of bringing Rotherham United back to Rotherham,"
