Michael Smith came off the bench to head the winner deep into stoppage time as Rotherham completed a 2-1 victory at Shrewsbury.

Joe Mattock earlier headed the visitors in front before Aaron Pierre equalised for Shrewsbury.

Rotherham were first to threaten when a Carlton Morris shot was deflected over the crossbar. Striker Morris then went even closer when his close-range effort came back off a post before goalkeeper Max O'Leary reacted well to save.

Matt Crooks had a chance for Rotherham at the start of the second half, but O'Leary saved diving low to his left.

Rotherham took the lead on the hour as Barlaser's corner was headed back across goal by Michael Ihiekwe and left-back Mattock headed in.

Shrewsbury equalised six minutes later when Scott Golbourne, picked out by Shaun Whalley's free-kick, crossed from the left and Pierre headed past Daniel Iversen.

Ryan Giles then had a shot well saved by Iversen while, at the other end, Freddie Ladapo went close for the visitors.

Then came the winner deep into stoppage time as substitute Smith directed in a header from Adam Thompson's cross creating crazy scenes in the away end.
