Scott will raise the bar - Stewart

Much talk has already surrounded the appointment of Scott, 38, who leads his side out for the first time against Hereford tomorrow.

And Stewart added to his weekly quotes, speaking to todays Advertiser at length about the appointment.

"Three seasons on, we're into our third manager and as much as that can be slightly negative, I see it as a positive because we now know what we want from a manager. We've gained experience and knowledge", said Tony.

"When we were interviewing Andy Scott and the questions we were asking and the demands we were making, it was totally different this time around. It was important to get the right man and after half-an-hour it became significantly clear that Andy was the man for the job.

"His tenacity, his attention to detail, his knowledge and his CV, everything stacked up and after two-and-a-half hours with him, I wasn't only impressed, I was knocked out. We had a second meeting and if the first one was convincing, the second one was even better. The guy wanted the job and convinced me on all aspects of football.

"It's not just about the first team with him. It's about the youth and all the teams that are associated with Rotherham United, and that's what he wants to be part of. He was making demands with regards to a good training ground, playing surface and everything else. He was a sheer professional. He's vibrant and active, he's very intelligent and articulate and he's hardworking. I'm really excited."

Stewart continued: "What stood Andy Scott in good stead was that he took a League Two club (Brentford) up to League One and achieved something in a short time. He helped them to the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. I was very impressed by his CV. Age didn't have any bearing on it whatsoever.

"I think we are looking for a long fix and for stability. We've a new stadium on the horizon and while it's nice to get all the cards together and in line, the football is the main ingredient and it's got to be right and it's got to be achieving things and that will be relentless.

"I think we've got a manager who will not only bring a professional attitude towards the job, he will inspire and make demands on the board, and rightly so. I think he will raise the bar."
