Scott starts rebuild as Thornber lets seven leave

Scott watched the Millers youth team deny Chesterfield the league title last week with a great 3-0 win and Banks, who has trained with the first team this year after signing a 6 month pro-deal aswell as spending time away on loan, has been offered longer terms.

The manager said to Millersplayer: "I've seen Ollie play in the reserves and seen him in training. He's got good build and his passing technique is good. There's obviously areas of the game that he needs to improve on but it's good having a young player who can come into the squad that has got potential."

Meanwhile coach Thornber has let seven first year YTS players leave the club, saying: "It's a difficult time but the reason behind it was that we couldn't see them progressing to the first team squad.

"A couple of them I would say could make a living in non-league and we wish them all the best and and we move on."

Thornber has also brought in seven new faces for next year including a new goalkeeper from Bolton to compete with 17 year-old Jack Leyden, who recently made the first team bench at Cheltenham.

Meanwhile, Scott has begun work behind the scenes in preparation for next season despite two games left on the agenda this campaign.

He said: "I'm looking at the players we've got and who's out of contract and who isn't and where we need to strengthen, which is a daily thing I'm re-assessing. I'm trying to nail down what I want to do and it's important that we get that plan in order very quickly.

"We need a strong squad with strength in depth and also for cover rather than going out and getting people on loan when we don't need to and I've got a list of players available from the agents, maybe we can take both loans and players on a permanent basis.

"I've got some good contacts at some good clubs for loans but firstly, it's important that we get a stable group of Rotherham United players here."
