Scott called me a five a side player - Pringle

Ben was branded a write off just months after being signed by Scott, who was sacked last March after less than a season in charge of the club.

Ironically, the manager who signed the player from Derby as his first major recruit returned to the Millers last weekend as his new club Aldershot were relegated, and Pringle touches on the dark days of last season.

He told the Advertiser exclusively: “Andy Scott said I was a five a side player and that I was never fit enough. They are the two things that have stuck in my mind all season long and especially on Saturday, going into that game. I think the two things you can’t say I haven't done this season is play good football and not been fit.

“When I signed for Andy Scott he said the aim was to get promoted but the first year was pretty much a write off personally and this one has been personally brilliant for me. I’ve played pretty much every game and to finish second top goal scorer and be top of the assists has been good.

“To be honest, I was absolutely desperate to score on Saturday but it wasn’t to be and the win was more important

“It has been a mental last couple of weeks to win five on the bounce and it is great to finish like we have. I think League Two is the worst league to get out of, that’s why it is at the bottom of the pyramid, so hopefully we can take on teams who let you play a bit more football.

“If we get the right players and are encouraged to play, there is no reason why we can’t go even higher."
