Ronnie & Fenners talk of DVS difficulties

Moore's men have won just one in the last seven and the boss believes that the club would have been promoted last season if they had still been playing back in town.

He told todays Tiser: "We would have finished in the top three had we been playing at Millmoor last season. I honestly believe that.

"We'd have had a good crowd in there and the Tivoli End was a place where the supporters could congregate and make a noise and you could really put the visiting team on the back foot. Where's that sort of area at Don Valley?

"Every ground has an end where the most vocal fans gather. The noise at some of the grounds we go to is unbelievable and our fans are more vocal away from home as well. At home, it's hard when there's 25,000 seats and there's only 2,500- 3,000 in.

"It's difficult for people to come and support us as a group and as a vocal crowd at the moment, even when we're playing really well. Where's the home advantage for us?

"It's not ideal but it's no excuse and we have to get on with it."

Nick Fenton also backed Moore's thoughts, adding: "I played at Millmoor lots of times for other clubs in the old days and it was an intimidating place. The crowd were breathing down your neck and everyone was on top of you. At Don Valley, our fans are 30 or 40 yards away from the pitch and only on one side. Who is that going to intimidate?

"The pitch there is lovely this year so we can't complain about that but no team is going to fear coming here when there's a lovely surface to play on and no fans anywhere near them. It's an easy thing and there is no intimidation. "

Would we have had more points if we had been playing at Millmoor? It's a hypothetical question but we think we would have had a few more. The fact is though that we're not playing at Millmoor.

"We have always had a decent record at Don Valley. We know we're going to be there this year and next year so we've got to get on with it and turn those onepointers into three pointers."
