Back in May the club announced that it intended building a new training ground on Roughwood Road after losing thier previous base at Hooton Lodge when the Millers left Millmoor and the clutches of the Booth family.

Tony today gave an update on how things are progressing; "We have said that the training ground will be at Roughwood Road and our solicitors are working closely with the solicitors at the council to ensure that everything is in place to provide us with the secured lease,"

"Along with everything else, the plans for a new academy are making significant progress too. The facilities will be fantastic, Premier League teams would be proud of what we will have, it is another very exciting project that will help with the overall plans of the continued development of this Club." he added.

The Millers have looked at various training facilities around the country and is basing its idea's on Derby Countys setup; "It is our intention to have the youth and the first team under one roof. I am a firm believer in solidarity and unity, that we are all one team and this will help the transition from youth to first team for the many quality young players will have on our books." Tony said.

"It is a similar template to the one built by Derby County, which was the best we have seen in the country. The planner and the design engineer who was involved with the project at Derby are also involved working on the academy for Rotherham United."
