Ben Close scored his first goal since August as Portsmouth extended their unbeaten run to seven matches with a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Rotherham.

Midfielder Close's sweetly-struck 66th-minute volley settled an enthralling Sky Bet League One encounter after visitors Rotherham had twice come from behind.

Republic of Ireland international Ronan Curtis gave Pompey the lead inside the first minute with a great curling shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Freddie Ladapo equalised in the 15th minute with a rebound effort after Pompey goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray had saved Daniel Barlaser's initial free-kick.

Pompey retook the lead eight minutes before half-time courtesy of John Marquis' close-range effort after Ellis Harrison had headed across goal.

Ladapo levelled for a second time from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute after Carlton Morris had been fouled by Oli Hawkins.

But Close had the final say with an expert finish from the edge of the penalty area after Rotherham failed to clear a corner.
