New ground on schedule?

After earmarking four locations for a possible new ground, Millers Chairman Tony Stewart told the Advertiser that it will have a capacity of 15,000 as the club look to set plans in place to further their move away from DVS in the four, but now three, year timescale imposed by the Football League.

Both the land on Meadowbank Road and the B and Q site rumours have been doing the rounds on the terraces and the messageboards, and Stewart explained: "People might ask what's happening, but we're taking the time to make sure we've examined all the options out there.

"We've looked at a couple of sites but in the last couple of weeks another two options have come into being. They are good sites and they are not going to delay anything. What they will do is give us more choices and better bargaining power because if the people we're dealing with know theirs is the only option then you've less bargaining power.

"We've got three years from this August to complete this stadium project and there's a progress chart in my office showing what we should be doing at any one time. We're well within those limits.

"The stadium will have a capacity of 15,000 and it's the first time I've said that. That is what I think is about right."

He added: "We've now got a consultant planner and a consultant engineer and we've been up to the Reebok Stadium at Bolton to talk about how they've done it with an adjoining hotel.

"We're not just looking at a site with a stadium on it but one with a hotel and features and benefits for the community. Rotherham Borough Council have been very helpful with regards to the land they own but we're also looking at the private sector as well, which has widened the scope."

"We've talked to the council about all the possible sites and they're happy with them, subject to planning."
