Mullin has been out for the last couple of weeks, after Barry Conlon crunched him during a reserve fixture against Barnsley.

It was originally thought that it was just a strain, but Mullin could'nt even drive to the training ground, and has missed the game against Brighton.

Millers Physio Dennis Curcuit sent the 29 year old to a specialist, and he told the clubs official site "It's not good news for John. He had an MRI scan that revealed a problem on his lumber spine. Then a subsequent X-ray revealed that he has suffered three fractures to transfers process that come off the vertebrae. They are in a position that will heal OK so he won't need an operation but he will be out for at least six weeks."

The Millers are also being rumoured with Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Matt Hamshaw. Assistant Manager John Breckin apparently watched the Wednesday v Hull game, however the 22 year old didnt make an appearance.

Breck's told the official site "I've earmarked a couple of players who could do a job for us, but it's unlikely that anyone will be signed before this Saturday's game against Sheffield United but we would like to bring someone in in time for the busy Christmas programme.
