Millers Trust release statement

Last updated : 12 March 2008 By Bigrich.....
Newly rebranded and renamed Millers Trust have just released the following statement on their website www.rufctrust.co.uk

With no news of a takeover or investment the Club must obviously be close to Administration. That will not be the end of the world, or the Club. There is a great deal we can do - individually and collectively - to give the Club a viable business future.

Three weeks ago we were told by the club that the debt was much more manageable than in the previous financial troubles. Precisely what this means we do not know. However, the words "much more manageable" certainly give the impression that we are capable of funding a period of Administration.

Millers Trust are working on a number of ideas and initiatives - and considering possible joint initiatives - to establish the best ways to support the Club during a period of Administration.

Millers Trust will be arranging an open fans meeting for discussion and details of the time and venue will be provided as soon as possible.

Since the Trust AGM, we have had discussions with a number of fans with a wide cross section of experience, knowledge and skills who have stepped forward with a desire to become actively involved with the Trust. We have also had discussions with the Chairman of the Rotherham United Supporters Club to ensure that their members' views are represented on the Millers Trust Board.

The Millers Trust Board has therefore been strengthened by co-opting the following fans onto the Trust Board:-
David Hall - Supporters Club Representative
David Rawson
Margaret Gulliver
John Hardy
Michael Thompson

We are also speaking to other fans who have expressed an interest in working with the Trust. We are also happy to speak to any fans or groups from outside the Trust about any separate ideas or initiatives. It could be that separate initiatives coming together could be a real force in the coming weeks.

The Trust Board now has available a wide base of knowledge, skills, experience and advice on a voluntary basis in commercial, marketing, financial, accountancy, management, human resources, football industry, legal, insolvency, technology and research. We want to play a significant part in the Club's business planning in consultation with the fans in particular and all other interested parties.

The Directors inform us that meetings with potential investors continue and that confidentiality prevents disclosure of any information about such meetings.

In the event of Administration, Millers Trust will seek an urgent meeting with the Administrator.

Rotherham Council Chief Executive Mike Cuff has today confirmed in writing to Millers Trust that the exploratory talks that are currently taking place about the Community Stadium will continue in spite of the difficulties currently being encountered by the Football Club.

Millers Trust is a democratic, legally constituted body which is registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts 1976 - 1978 and is regulated by the Financial Services Authority. Millers Trust is a member of Supporters Direct, the national organisation which provides advice and guidance to supporters' trusts. Millers Trust is presently in contact with Supporters Direct.
