Millers say sorry for postponed clash

Morecambe will have their travel costs refunded from the rescheduled games gate receipts, after they travelled to DVS to find out the match was called off due to heavy afternoon rain at 6pm.

Chief operating officer Paul Douglas said: "We managed to contact the match sponsors and service providers in good time. We are lucky that Don Valley do not charge us for postponed games therefore the financial loss was minimal, but we recognise the inconvenience to supporters- some of whom had already travelled-and we apologise for that.

"Every effort was made to get the match on. We looked at the pitch at 5.30pm and held off until about 6pm in the hope the rain would ease off.

"The trouble was that more water was falling on the pitch than we were taking off it. The referee had no option but to call the match off."

Douglas, speaking to todays Advetiser, continued; "As we've said, we're going to speak to the people at Don Valley and hopefully the outcome is that we will have more time to work on the pitch.

"It is in everyone's interest, ours and theirs, to do more on it."

Thje clash is re-arranged for April 21st, 7.45pm with further re-arranged games to come this month against Bury and Aldershot.
