Millers looking to launch kids initiative

Last updated : 06 February 2009 By Bigrich.....
The scheme is to be piloted at Wales High School ahead of the Gillingham home game on Valentines Day.

The provisional idea is to allocate four free tickets for kids to every full paying adult.

Commercial manager Rachael Bateson told today's Advertiser: "If successful, we'll roll this out across other schools.

"We're trying to get more children down to Don Valley because they make more noise and they're the fans of the future. There are also real benefits for the schools themselves."

Lawrence Morton of Wales School was positive about the scheme and said: "Sometimes it is important to support local issues. We have to promote our own town, especially when times are hard, and who even remembers the names of towns like Rotherham if they do not have a football team?

"A little grassroots support from young people goes a long way towards creating that 'feel good factor' we all need. Full marks to Rotherham United for taking up the challenge."
