In a contrast from our early season form which ironically saw Knill pick up the manager of the month award for October, the recent run of form which has seen the Millers plummet to the foot of the table and 13 points from safety has cost Alan Knill his job.

A statement on the clubs official website this morning said, "After intensive talks with Alan Knill, and taking into consideration the position of Rotherham United, the Board of Directors have made the decision to release Alan from his role as manager. This action was not taken lightly, but it was felt that this was the only option considering our current plight."

"We would like to wish Alan and his family all the best for the future and thank him for all the hard work he has done down at Millmoor."

Millers youth team manager Mark Robins will take charge of first team affairs for this Saturdays game against Bradford, and the Millers board also urged fans to back Robbo.

"We hope you will give Mark your full backing in his role as caretaker manager. This is now a time that we all need to pull together, from the fans to the board of directors, we all need to get behind our team and show them our support which will give them that much needed confidence. "

The last couple of weeks have seen Knill come under pressure with many fans calling for his head on the messageboards, however some also feel sorry for him.. Have your say on the MillersMAD Messageboards... CLICK HERE
