Despite originally stating that it could take upto a month to fill the managers post after Mark Robins moved to Barnsley, its expected that the new man will be in place before next weeks game against Barnet.

Todays Advertiser states that the club will be starting the interview process early next week and have already whittled the shortlist down to eight candidates.

Amongst the candidates is former boss Ronnie Moore, he is up against some decent pedigree, Steve Cotterill, Paul Jewell and Kevin Ball are in the frame while Gary Speed has had money placed on him this week which saw his odds shorted from 16/1 into 7/1.

As expected the club wont make the list public but former defender and Oxford boss Chris Wilder isnt expected to be interviewed the 'Tiser says.

"We're interviewing eight people and I'm confident that any of the eight could take us where we want to go. In terms of their CV's, they all have different strengths and different backgrounds but what they all have in common is a good track record and success at whatever they have been doing." Operating officer Paul Douglas said.

"It's a question of who comes over best and proves they can fit into the culture here and what we're trying to achieve. We hope to appoint someone before the Barnet game but whether that person is in charge of the team by then depends upon how things go next week." Douglas added.

"As our chairman has said, we are looking for a dynamic, passionate and enthusiastic manager but dynamism doesn't end at 50. Age is not a factor in who we will choose."

Current caretaker boss Steve Thornber has not put his name in the hat by saying last week that he's not intrested in the job and see's himself working with the youth players.

"From the beginning, Steve has said he had no ambitions to be first-team manager but he has thrown himself into the job and we appreciate that." Paul Douglas said.
