“We’ve made some calls this week and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we can do something today or tomorrow, to freshen things up before the weekend,” said Raynor to the clubs official website this morning.

“We’re always optimistic, we’ve identified a couple of players we think can add some competition for places, but for now, like anything to do with new recruits we’re waiting for the parent clubs to come back to us and then speaking to the lads themselves, so fingers crossed."

Out of favour Sheffield Wednesday left back Julian Bennett has been linked with a move to the Millers this week with Laurie Wilson still absent through injury.

Evans has also been trying to bring in a striker to add more competition for places.

Kari Arnason will have a fitness test on Friday and David Noble will come back into the squad as Saturdays visitors Oxford look to stop a run of five consecutive league defeats.
