Mick Priest is the new head of youth development

Mick Priest was today unveiled as the man to take charge of youth development at Millmoor, following Mark Robins' elevation to first team manager.

Priest, like Robins, has Old Trafford in his past, having been part of the coaching set up that brought players like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham through the Manchester United ranks. He was poached from United to head up Oldham Athletic's youth development and oversaw the progress of a number of promising youngsters, most notably Micah Richards.

His reputation is such that, when the United States Youth Training Program (a privately run youth football coaching residence course) ran a course to train the brightest of US football talent, they asked Priest (then at Oldham) to join a coaching team otherwise consisting of the youth coaches of Real Madrid, Anderlecht, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Priest has already been instrumental in setting up and running the trials for the Pakistani national team which the Millers hosted last weekend.

He will be assisted by Steve Thornber, who has over 300 League games under his belt as a midfielder for Halifax, Scunthorpe and Swansea amongst others. Thornber takes over as youth team manager.

Priest, in particular, seems a very astute acquisition by the Millers. Long term, might he be the best signing of the summer?
