League vote to boost home grown talent

A special EGM was arranged at Derby's Pride Park to discuss the initiative this week and the Football League board voted in favour of introducing the idea.

The way it works:

From the start of the 2009/10 season, a minimum of FOUR players in each teams 16 man match day squad, MUST be reguistered domestically for a minimum period of three seasons prior to their 21st birthday.

The idea is to try and benefit league clubs, mainly in the lower divisions, to nurture their younger talent to give them more opportunity at first team level.

League clubs across the divisions pumped around a combined 40 million pounds into their youth set ups last season.
