Laws lashes out at Coughlan

Owls manager Brian Laws has launched a strong attack against what he calls the "outrageous tackling" of Graham Coughlan during last night's Carling Cup defeat.

In an interview with Wednesday's official site, Laws accused Coughlan (right) of deliberately targeting Tudgay in the challenge that saw the Wednesday forward leave the field with an injured shoulder. "For whatever reason, Graham Coughlan's got in his mind to go for the player and not the ball", Laws said, adding "that's something that the FA and referees are supposed to stamp out. I haven't seen those sort of tackles for the last decade."

Laws also accused Coughlan of following through on Deon Burton in a tackle early on in the game.

Laws has sent a video of last night's match to the FA and asked them to take a "very stern look at it". He has also complained to Keith Hackett about last night's refereeing.

FA rules do not allow retrospective action to be taken against a player where the referee saw and did not act on the incident, so it is unlikely that Coughlan will receive any punishment.
