It's all about the points - Warney

“I thought we deserved the win but could have done with more goals, really. I’m really pleased. Against Peterborough last week I thought we were outstanding – it was one of our best performances of the season. The first 25 minutes at Charlton we were good, conceded a sloppy goal and we weren’t as great second-half.

“What I am well aware of with six games to go before today was it’s not so much about the performance, it’s about picking up points. I think we played against an excellent Fleetwood side who haven’t conceded in five games. For us to go a goal down must have put a lot of doubts in a lot of people’s minds. Apart from our defending from set pieces, we were pretty good, There was tension in the stadium because everyone knows the importance of these home games especially."

“We asked the lads to start brightly and get the fans into it but then we conceded early and it went really quiet. You could feel the pressure. We didn’t move the ball quick enough in the first half but in the second half we did and the more the game went on, the better we looked.

“Fleetwood hadn’t conceded in five games so to score three against them is testament to the lads.“I’ve got a great group,” he continued. “They believe in what we’re trying to do and what we’re trying to teach them. To come off the pitch 3-2, you could see the tension with me included. Everyone desperately wants to get to the Play-Offs and people are fighting for different things at this time of the season. There’s going to be a lot of ups and downs but to get a home win and with two more home games to go, hopefully we’ll be pretty close to being in the Play-Offs.

“We asked the lads to move the ball quickly. We didn’t really get through them, we asked them to get round them. I thought we started the first 30 seconds okay. They got the goal off the set-piece which is disappointing. We had a lot of the ball but we didn’t move it as quick as I wanted. They got men behind the ball as they do. They made it difficult for us."

“I thought Newelly today was unplayable. His touch from the skies near the end was an awesome thing to see. I know goals will always get headlines but I like little touches of class. Newelly’s definitely got that. I’m very proud to be his manager at the moment.

“I think, generally, we created a lot more chances except for a couple of set-pieces which didn’t cause us loads of problems but they have got an attacking threat.

“Box to box we were excellent. We controlled the game really well and the more the game goes on, I thought we looked stronger.

“It’s just a really pleasing day at the office. When we went on a run of winning seven games everyone thinks you’re going to win every game. Football is not like that, sport is not like that. We played against the in-form side in the league and to score three against them when they haven’t conceded for 600 minutes is testament to the group I’ve got.”

“If we had lost today and results had gone against us, it would have heaped the pressure on for the two away games. To win and score three against a good side is pleasing, but we won’t relax,” he added.
