It's all about gaining momentum - Holroyd

Holroyd is hoping for a winning start against Oxford this weekend and will be looking to get on the goal trail as soon as possible.

With speculation about Adam Le Fondre's future, he may well be called upon as the main goal threat for the Millers throughout the season. “It is all about momentum in this league and we saw that with Stevenage last year. They got on a roll and came from nowhere,” he told the Star.

“I would not have joined Rotherham if I didn’t think we had a real chance of going up this year. There is real ambition here. We have got a great squad, a good manager so hopefully we will have a good season.”

In an experimental 4-3-3 formation against Huddersfield last week, the 24-year-old was given the responsibility by manager Andy Scott of leading the line.

He said: “It is a nice balance and I think it worked quite well the three of us up front together (with Alfie and Lewis Grabban).

“We have all got something different to offer. The main thing is that we score goals. Huddersfield are a team who are going to be challenging but the system worked well for 70 minutes.

“It was the first time we had tried it and all the boys thought it worked well. I think we matched them for most of the match. We just dropped off late on due to a loss of concentration.”

Holroyd added:  “Andy is very organised and methodical in training. He wants to get everything right. That is what you need as a manager. We need to go out on the pitch feeling confident and knowing our jobs.”
