Scott was contacted by new Preston manager Graham Westley about Holroyd, and the gaffer says the move went from there.
"Graham had Chris at Stevenage, and he was the first person he contacted me about when he got the Preston job. After much deliberation we decided it was a deal that would benefit Chris and ourselves,." said Scott to the clubs website.
"As soon as Chris heard that there was interest, he seemed keen on the deal, as he lives close to the area. With the form of Alex Revell and Lewis Grabban we just felt it was an offer the club couldn't turn down, and we would like to wish him all the best for the future,".
Holroyd himself added: "I was optimistic about my move here in pre-season, and I was looking forward to playing. Unfortunately things haven't quite worked that way, and it's one of those things in football where you just have to move on.
"It's a new start and hopefully I can get some games under my belt."
