I don't take my position for granted - Newey

After joining in the summer from Bury the 28 year-old started the season in fine form at left back, but of late sections of the crowd have been critical of his form.

Having been rested for two matches then brought back to replace Jamie Green last Saturday against Stockport, Newey told the Tiser about how he's been feeling in recent weeks.

"I wouldn't say getting dropped gave me a kick up the backside because I'm not the kind of person who takes things for granted", he said.

"Football is football. If you have a dip in form, which I know I've had, then it happens. Greeny came in and the manager felt it was right to put me back in last Saturday and I thought I did OK. Of course I was disappointed to be out—I want to be in helping the team. I thought I started the season quite well and I know myself that my form dipped for maybe three or four games.

"Other people have had periods like that; every footballer goes through it. It's just about working yourself through it and working hard."

He added: "We're getting into the business end of it now and we're in a great position. We've just got to make sure we keep winning our home games and picking up points away and if we do that then we'll be there or thereabouts.

"It's one of those divisions. If you look at all the divisions up to the Championship, they're all so tight. You see shocks every weekend. But we have good quality in the side and that's why we're in the top three."
