Head2Head & Match Preview - Notts County

Last updated : 21 September 2007 By Deano
The Millers go into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory over bottom club Wrexham, and will be looking for a much better performance with a victory to cap it off, although i'm sure we'll take a scrappy three points once again!

Sitting in 10th place and with only one defeat in six, it's not been a bad start for Mark Robins' new look side with consolidation his primary aim. Our visitors arrive having achieved their first win of the season against Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend amidst off the field problems and rumblings surrounding manager Steve Thompson from the terraces.

Recent boardroom departures (Chairman Jeff Moore and technical director Howard Wilkinson to name just two) has led to distinct upheaval at Meadow Lane, behind a business plan entitled 'vision 2012' which is a scheme highlighted to take County to the Championship within the next five years.

Thompson himself has been feeling the strain and the fans demand results, the gaffer admitted to BBC Sport online after last weeks 1-0 success: "I am relieved as we all know that it has been a difficult week. We had to make our own luck and we have a hard-working set of players and I am pleased for them and the fans too. I know the frustrations of the fans that we bring everyone back to defend set-pieces but we've worked on it and we don't want to concede from them."

He arrives at Millmoor this weekend with ex-Millers loan goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington in his ranks, and coach Steve Cherry, also a former Miller. Ironically it was Pilkington who replaced Cherry as Rotherham were relegated to this division just over 10 years ago. Presently I'm suprised to see them struggling early on with the likes of one time Rotherham target Richard Butcher, Jason Lee, Lawrie Dudfield and ex-Forest man Spencer Weir-Daley in their ranks.

Tomorrow they are set to be without Jay Smith (groin) and Myles Weston (hamstring), whilst Andy Parkinson could return to the side and Neil McKenzie may start after netting last weeks winning goal. Mike Edwards is a long term casualty with ruptured ankle ligaments and won't feature until the second half of the campaign.

Last time out v Dagenham: Pilkington, Canoville, Tann, Hunt, Mayo, Smith (Silk 78), Somner, Butcher (MacKenzie 73), Lee, Dudfield (Sam 87), Weir-Daley.
Subs Not Used: Sandercombe, McCann.

The Millers have doubts over Ian Sharps once again who has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, and also striker Derek Holmes, who struggled through the second half at Wrexham with back pain. Chris O'Grady, who came off the bench to score the winner, may force his way back into the side to partner loanee Bruce Dyer. Tom Cahill and Ryan Taylor will also be in the gaffers thoughts after both scoring in last night's win over Hull in the reserves.

Here's the head to head between the two sides down the years.
