Hursty is currently Grimsby Town manager after getting them promoted from the conference last season.
Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph the former defender admitted that he'd be intrested in a Millers return; "Of course I would be interested one day, and if people get upset by me saying that, then I think they're being unrealistic," Hurst told the Telegraph.
"I spent so long there high up the leagues – yes I know they're currently bottom, but whichever way you look at it, a club that's grown and built itself up as an attractive prospect. One day, if everything fits and I can stay in the game, then I'd definitely be interested." he added.
"It looks like Kenny Jackett's going to get the job and he should be a good fit. He's an experienced Championship manager who will have to go in and quickly turn the fortunes around."
