Fans Receive Praise For Painting Exploits

Millers fans were outside Rotherham HQ bright and early ready to show their commitment to the cause, lead by chief organiser Steve Matthews. People giving up their own Sunday was great to see as we set to work allocating tasks and working in small groups to achieve our goal. First into action outside the stadium were two groups sprucing up the turnstiles at the Tivoli End. Looking distinctively washed out, a fresh shade of post office red was needed along with a repainting of the numbers to brighten them up.

Flag hanging proudly from the railings outside the ticket office
and the sound of 'Millermen' blasting from the car stereo, people were enjoying the day outside the ground just as much as those inside. Millmoor Lane received a fresh lick of white emulsion while Rich and Brinnie got to work on the Tivoli gable.

Come lunchtime, the smell of hot pies was much appreciated as we took a well earned break to tuck in. Brinnie saw the opportunity of a good snapshot with camcorder in hand as we sat on the Tivoli refueling for the afternoon.

Mid afternoon saw a makeover of the Nike sports shop railings and the posts on the forecourt, as well as various gates and doors around the stadium. The final job of the day was to paint the front of the pub, with the pillars looking a mucky shade of pink and white. Throughout the day club officials were present to lend a hand, as were the Calendar TV crew to interview Mr Matthews.

Mr Henson returned to lock the ground at 4pm, and thanked us for all our hard work. Earlier today he told the offical website: "I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who turned up to help with the painting work at Millmoor. They did a terrific job, there were around 15 people who turned up and they will be coming back in a couple of weeks to finish off the job.
"So once again and on behalf of the football club, we would like to say thank you very much and we look forward to seeing you again in a couple of weeks time."

We in turn would like to thank the club for making this happen. Also a big thanks to Steve Matthews for his time and efforts, Martin Horner of Rosehill Press (pictured)
for their 200 pound donation, A.C Coking's donation of materials, Matthew Twigg for providing the refreshments and all other Milers fans who've chipped into the kitty. An extra special mention though to Patrick-CTMiller, this man was only in the UK for a day as he made his way from Singapore to the US on business. In the words of Brinnie - a true gent.

With over 175 litres of paint left over, you can imagine the job in hand, which we'd all like to complete to its full potential. Many of you may still like to help - the provisional new date to commence painting is the 23rd. To those who I met yesterday it was a pleasure - and I look forward to working with you again. Don't know about you, but I consumed plenty of this afterwards!
