Early FA Cup First Round Team News - Peterborough United (A)
Last updated : 09 November 2006 By Deano
Alan Knill takes his squad South on the back of last week's 1-1 draw with Carlisle, which ended four straight league victories.
Our opponents sit in 7th spot in League Two and certainly like to push forward on home soil, having bagged four goals in the last two home games against Swansea and Accrington as well as being on the wrong end of a 5-3 scoreline against Hartlepool so far this campaign.
With Rotherham netting over 30 times this season themselves then you could more or less guarantee goals on Saturday and league form generally goes out of the window in the cup.
As for the team news, Posh boss Keith Alexander and his newly appointed coach Tommy Taylor have a few injury problems to contend with. Duo Peter Gain and Simon Yeo, both with Alexander during his time at Lincoln City, are set to miss out whilst a few other knocks niggle around the camp. The gaffer is boosted by the expected return of winger Adam Newton though who has sat out the last two matches with a calf problem. The Millers will have to keep an eye on dangermen Jason Crowe and the much travelled Trevor Benjamin.
Alexander believes the draw couldn't have been much harder for his side, speaking to theposh.com he explained: "I know Alan knill well and he's obviously worked miracles as they started with a ten point deduction.. He's made some good signings and it will be an extremely difficult game for us. It could not have been much harder but it is a cup match so anything can happen."
The Posh are expecting us to take over 1,000 down to their place to make for a lively atmosphere. The teams have met just once previously in the FA Cup, on 3rd January 1970 when the Milers went down to a 1-0 defeat.
Alan Knill's team line up is anybody's guess at this stage of proceedings, but going by recent selection he won't be making too many changes. Eugen Bopp and Martin Woods both become available after suspension, and everyone including Gregor Robertson should be fully fit if required. The main topic of discussion has been whether Colin Murdock keeps his place or makes way for Ian Sharps at the back, whilst Neil Cutler will hope to continue his recent impressive form.
Should the camera's capture any goals, they will feature on Match of the Day on Saturday evening.
