Donny pull off surprise Woods signing

Woods, who made it clear that he would like to exercise the clause in his contract that allowed him to move if the club were relegated, had courted interest from the likes of Norwich, Barnsley and Scunthorpe but has been persuaded to stay in South Yorkshire.

The Scottish U21 international coasted his way to all the club's awards this season after a bright display in what was a disasterous season for the club and it was soon evident that he would be unlikely to stay even before choosing to trigger his clause.

With interest from higher placed clubs, a move to Doncaster will surprise many and Rovers admit they had to work hard to get him. "This was a really great coup for us. I'm absolutely delighted that Martin is joining us and if you think back to the game here he scored a fantastic goal against us which would be amongst the best this season.

We have worked hard to get him here and succeeded against the odds to convince him here was where his future lay" Donny chairman John Ryan told their official website, www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk

Woods was signed by Alan Knill just before the start of last season after he was released by Sunderland and initially struggled to break in to the starting XI. He eventually made a place his own though with a string of influential displays and some stunning goals which resigned Millers boss Mark Robins to his imminent departure. He made 31 starts for the Millers.
