Davis can follow Morgs example - Evans

Morgan, who is set to return to fitness for next weekends visit of Chesterfield, had a nightmare debut at Port Vale for the Millers in their 6-2 thrashing earlier in the season - but went on to be a rock at the heart of the defence.

And the boss thinks Morgans debut was even worse than Claude Davis' effort two weeks ago, despite the ex-Crawley defender being dismissed and giving a penalty away in the first half against Bristol Rovers.

Evans told the Advertiser: “Claude Davis has come in for a lot of stick after his debut but Craig Morgan's first game at Port Vale was worse. He came on as a sub and gave a goal away and was shocking.

“He got all sorts of stick but I told him I believed in him and I wanted him here and I would get his fitness right and get him focused.

“He is now quite simply the best defender and when he did sign a deal with us he had a host of League One clubs interested, and Claude Davis is the same. He had a poor debut. He picked up a poor booking and got left in a difficult defensive situation for his sending-off but we are now concentrating on the positives.”

Davis is back from his suspension tomorrow but Evans may keep faith with Johnny Mullins and Kari Arnason at the heart of the defence after last weeks win against Northampton.
