Cummins frustrated by time on sidelines

Speaking to the 'Tiser after scoring the winner at Grimsby on Tuesday night, "It's been frustrating the last eight weeks out," he said.

"I picked up an injury at the end of last season year and had an operation during the summer on my knee.

"I came back just in time for pre-season and thought I was fit but I had a bit of a setback with family issues. My son wasn't well and had to go into hospital to have his appendix out so I had a few days off.

"I've had a few hiccups and I'm not match fit because of my setback in rehab but at least I've got on in the last couple of games.

"I've scored a few with my head," he said. "In fact I nodded one in when we beat them 4-1 at our place last season. It's about the timing of my runs and I managed to create some confusion among their defenders and capitalised on it.

"Of course there's more competition here than ever now but it's good to have it. It's healthy and it brings out the best in players who are fighting for their shirt.

"This is one of the best squads I've been involved in and it's a hard decision to pick the 11. To keep everyone happy is a difficult thing but as long as we're getting results then the fans are happy and we're achieving our goals.

"The good thing is that I made a case for myself on Tuesday. There were also a couple of injuries and I'm available! " need games and I hope I've given the gaffer an headache for Sunday.

"I reached the play-offs with Darlington and at Port Vale I missed out on goal difference, so I'm due one. Before I retire, I want to have tasted promotion and moved up to a higher level. You want to test yourself and I believe the squad here is strong enough to go all the way. If we did go up then you'd only have to add one or two for next year, but that's another day.

"To be honest, the end of last season and the beginning of this seemed to have blended into one because we have such good team spirit. The gaffer has brought in the right sort of characters. There's no bad apples here.

"I don't want to put pressure on us, but we've got goals in this team and we need to finish a minimum of top six. It would be great to get automatic but let's remember nothing is won in August."
