Costin probe does not involve club - SY Police

After the story broke in the media earlier this week, a South Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that the investigation into alledged money laundering by Dave Costin does not involve Rotherham United.

"A 43-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of money laundering. After interview, both have been released on police bail.I can confirm these to be David Costin and his wife Lisa. Further, I can confirm that the investigation is not connected to Rotherham United FC.", SYP said.

Mr Costin has denied and wrongdoing and has assured the RUFC board that the matter is a mistake.

A statement from the club on Thursday said: "The board has been assured by fellow director Dave Costin that the current police investigation into his personal affairs will prove groundless and that he is entirely innocent of any charges which may be brought."

"We regard this as a private matter which is completely unrelated to the football club and are happy that Dave will continue to fulfil his role on the board of Rotherham United where he will have our 100 per cent backing."

No other comment has been made and Mr & Mrs Costin have been bailed until 12th Febuary 2008.
