Captain Coughlan expects the best.

The former Wednesday player joined the Millers on a 2 year deal after much work from Robbo & Breck to bring in their man, and they immediately gave him the captains armband.

"It's a great honour to captain any football team but, without sounding negative about it, the captaincy is immaterial to me. I'll still bark out orders. I'll still urge people on. I'll still drive people forward and I'll still expect 100 per cent off each and every player." he said.

"There's enough leaders and captains in our dressing room and I won't make a difference to any single individual. There's a desire and a hunger here and if we can carry that onto the park and carry out to the letter of the law what the manager expects then we should be there or thereabouts."

Cocko then went on to speak about his past, "I've captained Livingstone and I captained Plymouth for most of the season when they won the old fourth division championship, Obviously I skippered Sheffield Wednesday, but the captaincy isn't something I feel I have to have. It's not an issue for me. I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if the armband was handed to any other player."

"When I was released by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season, I had 101 offers and 101 meetings and I went away training with clubs.
It was well documented that I met one of the local teams (Leeds United), but I couldn't hang around month after month without being paid. Things weren't right."

"Many factors played a part in my move here. I just had a gut feeling it was right. Not a lot of people know this, but ten or 12 years ago when I was in the reserves at Blackburn, Rotherham were the first team on the phone to give me a chance of coming across here.I don't forget little things like that. It might be a minor detail but I remembered it."

"Also, the move had lot to do with my wife and my two kids. I couldn't take my five-year-old girl out of school in Sheffield and take her away from her friends and the environment she's in. She is absolutely loving it."

"Mark Robins and John Breckin really sold Rotherham to me with their desire and enthusiasm. The club has been through a sticky patch over the last couple of seasons but hopefully now we can get some stability and try to bring a bit of success to the football club and the town as well."

"I'm no stranger to Rotherham. Living locally, I've come over here a lot these last couple of years and I know quite a lot of the lads here because I've played against them in the past. Rotherham is a club that is renowned up and down the country. It's got a bit of tradition. Millmoor has always been a tough place to come and we've got to enhance that now and make it a bit of a fortress and keen clean sheets and basically win football matches."
