He told today's Advertiser: "Apart from the result, I think I did quite well. I had a few nerves beforehand but they were good nerves.

"I probably learned more in that game than a dozen reserve games and it was important I got a first-team match under my belt.

"What I learned from Tuesday night I need to take it into the future. I'm only 20 and I've made my debut. I have a long way to go but working with the rest of the first team squad is helping me.

"Goalkeepers develop much later on in their career and peak around 25 to 30, so I've just got to keep working hard and see where it takes me."

"It's important to be patient, Andy Warrington has been superb and if it wasn't for his injury he would still be in goal now. It's about grabbing the opportunity with both hands when it comes along and remaining confident in your own ability whatever happens.

"I'm 6ft 3in and I have a good presence in goal. I'm a good shot stopper and my distribution is decent. They're all things which make a good goalkeeper.

"I'll keep working and hope my time comes again."
