The 22 year old revealed his discontent at being unable to settle in the north during the summer and eventually handed in a transfer request to manager Mick Harford just days before the deadline day, which resulted in the Millers turning down a 100k bid for Campbell-Ryce from Southend.

The Essex side returned for him just a week later and have agreed a three month loan deal that will turn in to a permenant transfer when the window re-opens in January. The fee will be undisclosed and it is thought that there are several clauses in the deal, one of which will prevent Campbell-Ryce playing against Rotherham this season.

Can't Settle In North

Southend boss Steve Tilson was keen to delay the move so Campbell-Ryce would be available to play in the busy Xmas period in accordance with the maximum 96 day loan rule set by the Football League and the Lambeth born player will play with the reserves tonight at Roots Hall.

Campbell-Ryce joined Rotherham in November of last year for an undisclosed fee from Charlton and flattered to deceive after a promising start and Millers fans may feel that there was more to JCR than they got to see. He made 28 starts for Rotherham and Southend will be his fifth club in three years.

It is thought that they are not any replacements lined up and any newcomer would have to be a funded loan move.
