Cahill, 20, has been sidelined during prre-season afrer keyhole surgery on a knee problem, now the unknown quantity signed fronm Matlock Town is relishing a shot at league football.

"I've played non-league and I have played pre-seasons before but I'm in the fortunate position of having no fear" he told the Advertiser. "I genuinely have nothing to lose. I know it sounds stupid, but I know I'll cut it.

"It wasn't so much of a shock when Rotherham came in for me. It was more of an opening and it is a dream for me.

"I turned down the chance of non-league football in my first two years at university and then Matlock asked me to go along and I scored on my debut for them.

"They offered me a contract and I only came in a third of the way through last season after playing at university. They had a bit of an injury crisis, so I came along, got in the side and sort of stuck around from there."

Now the cyst on his knee has cleared up, Tom is able to get his teeth into training and regain fitness to push for a first team spot with four other forwards at Millmoor.

"I was bit worried that I wasn't able to train but I've done my own pre-season work and it shouldn't be long before I'm ready to get back.

"The lads have been working really hard in training. We went away for a few days and I was a bit isolated in the gym because I couldn't train properly, but they're a good set of lads and the camaraderie is starting to come together."
