Cahill doubt for new season

The young newcomer to the Football League suffered a disappointing start to his professional career when he complained of pain in his knee and was immediately sent for surgery in a bid to cure the problem early.

And despite being back on his feet already Cahill is still a few weeks off being ready to play and although Mark Robins believes he will recover very quickly, he may not be ready for the start of the season. "Tom is a very fit, young lad and he'll get over this quickly because of that, quicker than most would," the Millers boss told today's Rotherham Star.

"He's working hard on his rehabilitation and although the rest will be playing games over the next couple of weeks, he's not going to be far behind them."

The 20 year old's rehab programme would see him available for the final pre season friendly on 4th August, when Hartlepool are the visitors and this would leave him short of games ahead of the big kick off.

Cahill, Rotherham's first summer recruit, looks set to be in the battle for a reserve spot, with Derek Holmes and Chris O'Grady almost certain to begin the season as Robins' first choice strike pairing.
