Burton Issues Transfer Request

Burton joined Rotherham from League One rivals Brentford in the summer and has been a huge hit at Millmoor scoring 13 league and cup goals so far in a struggling team, a tally which he has never matched in his career before. It is rumoured that Sheffield Wednesday boss, Paul Sturrock had been watching the 29 year old in November and the Rotherham star reported yesterday that the S6 side had been monitoring Burton with a view to making a move in January.
Top scorer

The Rotherham board have yet to accept or refuse the request and Chairman Peter Ruchniewicz told the official site “The timing of this request is disappointing especially following our win at Bradford. Deon has been considering his future career and has decided that might be best served away from Rotherham. This is especially surprising after how well he settled in at the club and quickly became our leading goal scorer".

The action taken by Burton may be the work of agents but his body language on the pitch has suggested that he has been discontented for some time. This has not always been the case though and as recently as September Burton told BBC Sport: “I'm loving it - could not have asked for better. I don't know too much about the past here, I don't think there are many teams that will look forward to coming here. All the players here are capable of playing at a higher level."
Disappointed

The Jamaican striker is the second Rotherham player to hand in a transfer request of the season after Jamie Campbell-Ryce expessed his desire to move south in September. No decision is expected by the board before Christmas and Burton will be in the squad for the Boxing Day clash against Huddersfield
