Burton free to face Millers

Deon Burton looks set for a return to Millmoor in the Carling Cup, despite being sent-off during the Owls' pre-season tour to Holland.

Burton was shown a red card in Wednesday's tour match against Heerenveen and was expected to be suspended for the first two fixtures of the 2007/8 season as a result. That would have meant that Burton would not have been available to play against the Millers on 16 August.

However, because the red card was shown for foul and abusive language and not for violent conduct or serious foul play, it does not cause a suspension in domestic fixtures.

Burton's availability will not be confirmed until the referee's report arrives with the English FA, but that is expected soon, meaning Millers fans can expect to see Burton turn out against them in the first home game of the new campaign.

The former Derby and Portsmouth man bagged 14 goals in 26 starts for the Millers before a controversial exit in January 2005.
