Brearley sets the record straight

"Tony Stewart is correct in that £1.2 million was the final figure that came up but it also includes monies owed to his syndicate that were injected, all the legal fees (a six-figure sum) and a claim from landlords CF Booth Group over the lease on Millmoor and the Hooton Lodge training ground," Giles told the Advertiser.

"In real terms, the trading deficit Tony should have quoted was about a third of the figure of £1.2 million.

"When Tony called at my office I did ask him where this figure came from. He confirmed it was from the statement of affairs produced by the administrator, Jeremy Bleazard.

"Myself and the former directors (Denis Coleman, Dave Costin, Gary Hall) feel this should be set straight.

"It appears that the club is still losing money at present but hopefully it will work its way back into the black. Given time and a fair wind it can happen."

Brearley added: "I do wish Tony Stewart and his backers well with the club. We hunted and hunted for two years to find a financial backer. Our regret is that they didn't come forward to take over when we approached them the first time."
