A press releaee, issued by Brearley and Co, reads as follows:.

THE BUSINESS OF TRYING TO KEEP ROTHERHAM "UNITED"
By Giles H Brearley and Gavin J Mackinder.

When Rotherham United was on the verge of closure in 2006 no one came forth to save the club. The Town's proud 100 year history of League football was about to end. Two fans in desperation hurriedly formed a consortium to take over and save the club.

Denis Coleman and fellow supporter Dino Maccio began doing the rounds and secured funding to start the new 2006/2007 football season. Denis as the new chairman of the board of directors approached Brearley & Co Accountants and encouraged Giles Brearley FCMA to join them on the board to help steer the club to a more certain future.

The roller coaster financial management task was undertaken for the next 2 years by Giles and his fellow business partner, Gavin. This book, jointly written, unfurls the complexities of the real grass roots business of operating a football league club. Virtually every problem you could envisage materialised and had to be dealt with. It was a constant battle.

The story includes hoax inheritances, unprecedented financial claims from years gone by, a lease from hell, the million pound sale of its two star players, a manager to remove, a new manager to appoint, squad sizes and players budgets, fisticuffs, fundraising and other football league problems.

The book also examines the published accounts of all the other League Two clubs and compares them with our own financial results. There are also details of the match day antics which give a great insight into the escapades during the many games played both at home and up and down the country.
Whilst active on the club's business certain things had to be kept confidential from the "knowledge seeking" fan base.

This book will now fill in many of the "greatly speculated upon" parts of the Rotherham United story and give insight into what happens in the backroom corridors of league football.

With over 300 pages containing 48 chapters including titles such as
"Boardroom skirmishes", "You can tell Neil Warnock's gone",
"The Americans are coming", "Don Valley or bust",
"Accrington Stanley - who are they?" and "Robo the silent one" it is a very entertaining read and a must for anyone interested in "our beautiful game".

The book is also well illustrated with many personal photos taken by Giles during his two seasons in office.
