Alternative sites have been sought - Stewart

Speaking to today's 'Tiser, Tony explained: "I have been in business long enough to know that things can go wrong.

"I have asked the council for alternative sites because we are on a mission to move in four years. It's not just that I want it. The Football League demand it.

"There are alternative sites but we are hell bent on moving to Parkgate. Another access road will be going in and it will be a superb location."

One of a few other earmarked sites could be at the Millmoor Juniors' home, Droppingwell Lane in Kimberworth.

Stewart continued: "It's not a case of what plots are around. It's about whether the council can get the necessary planning permission.

"It's up to us to go back to the council with the specification we want and I would welcome any suggestions. It's Rotherham United's stadium and the fans stadium.

"I have said that I would only proceed with the new stadium providing Rotherham United had more than 50 per cent control," added Stewart.

"I have seen new stadiums that have been built in good faith and things haven't worked out. If you are not in control, you are out of control.

"I do not see any obstacles and I know there are options to the one we have already got. I wouldn't be pursuing this stadium plan if I didn't think it could be done."
