Alf speculation detracts from our good start - Scotty

Asked if he thought Alf would still be here ahead of tomorrows game with Gillingham or at the close of Wednesdays transfer window, Scott as ever gave an honest assessment.

“How long’s a piece of string? As I stand here now, there could be a call anytime or it might be at five to 11 next Wednesday. It’s a major distraction but part and parcel of being a manager with good players.

“Alf has been absolutely first class through all this and has been kept aware of everything that’s been going on. He’s no problems at all with how we’ve handled the situation. Through my time here he’s been totally professional. I can’t say anything about before I came but he has been fantastic for me.

“It’s just that all the speculation and the talk detracts from the good start we’ve had and the fact we have some good players here capable of good things.

“But it’s been all about Alf. He doesn’t want that, I don’t but we are having to deal with it. But unless people come up with the right money for someone who has 58 goals in 105 appearances, then he’s staying.”
