Burnley 0-3 Rotherham (25th November 1997)

The Millers made their first ever appearance on live TV when they travelled to Turf Moor for an FA Cup replay against Chris Waddle's Burnley, who were a division higher than Ronnie Moore's men.

Performing in front of number one commentary team Martin Tyler and Andy Gray, Rotherham went on to put in one of the best performances of the season and destroyed the home side 3-0. Jason White started things off in the first half before a stunning Trevor Berry goal and a Darren Garner finish late on wrapped things up.

Mansfield 0-3 Rotherham (22nd January 1999)

Rotherham doubled their tally of 3-0 away wins live on Sky when they took local rivals Mansfield to the cleaners on a misty Friday night at Field Mill. With the club chasing a play off place, both managers were wired up to a machine that monitored the heart rates of them during the game.

A Steve Thompson penalty, a goal from Andy Roscoe and a second live goal for Jason White was enough for the Millers to seal a comfortable win.

Rotherham 2-3 Mansfield (17th March 2000)

Mansfield were to get their own back just a year later in a thrilling game, the first to be screened at Millmoor. With Rotherham in an automatic promotion position they were quickly 2-0 down, one of the goals coming from an outstanding long range effort from Chris Greenacre.

The Millers pulled one back from a fine solo goal from Chris Sedgwick before the Stags again got a two goal cushion. Another Sedgqick strike brought the home team back in it but despite all the pressure, Mansfield held on to inflict defeat in Rotherham's first live home game.

Walsall 1-1 Rotherham (23rd January 2001)

Both teams were in the hunt for promotion when this rearranged Division Two game featured live on Sky. On a cold January evening on a poor pitch at the Bescot, viewers were not treated to a thrilling game.

It looked as if Rotherham would endure another defeat when Darren Byfield slammed Walsall in front but Chris Sedgwick once again stepped in to the limelight with another fine strike earning his team a vital point.
Early star

Rotherham 0-0 Wolves (30th November 2002)

The Millers first appearance back on Sky after the channel had lost it's rights of the Football League saw a clash against another Black Country side and this was an equally dour game.

A late Saturday kick off on a cold and foggy evening saw Rotherham in the top six of Division One and faced the likes of Paul Ince and Denis Irwin. Neither side could make the breakthrough though in a disappointing game.

Rotherham 1-3 Crystal Palace (22nd December 2002)

The Sky cameras returned to Millmoor at an unfortunate time for Ronnie Moore's men as despite a prolific away record at the time, the club were about to endure four straight home defeats.

The Sunday before Christmas and a dreadful performance saw the Millers 3-0 down, thanks largely to two excellent Tommy Black strikes. A Darren Byfield goal from a rebound to a missed penalty from Alan Lee served as little more than a consolation.

Rotherham 1-2 Sheffield United (28th February 2003)

A winless streak on Sky was beginning to develop when Neil Warnock brought his promotion chasing Sheffield United to Millmoor on a Friday night.

A controversial penalty from Dean Windass helped in giving the Blades a 2-0 lead before an equally dodgy penalty from Alan Lee got the Millers back in it. They couldn't force an equaliser though and United left with the points.

Portsmouth 3-2 Rotherham (27th April 2003)

Rotherham's next appearance on the box was purely incidental as they happened to be the opponents for Portsmouth's promotion push and a win for Pompey would see them promoted to the Premiership.

On an early Sunday evening kick off the Millers put up a fight that nearly put the kibosh on Pompey's party as they twice cancelled out a Portsmouth goals with Chris Swailes and Guy Branston grabbing the goals. Portsmouth fortuitously regained the lead late in the first half though and held on to gain promotion.

Reading 0-0 Rotherham (25th August 2003)

An August bank holiday appearance meant a 12pm start for the Millers who were still celebrating their famous win over West Ham just two days before.

Missing Alan Lee from his recent sale the Millers looked an inate threat throughout much of the game but a solid defensive performance kept Reading out at the other end. Another appearance without a win!

Rotherham 0-2 Crewe (13th September 2003)

The Millers were back on the box just two games later and they weren't to fare much better this time as another home defeat ensued.

With Martin Butler making his debut the Millers were overflowing with problems and Dario Grady's men had little problem in turning over a team with little confidence.

Nottingham Forest 2-2 Rotherham (14th October 2003)

A third appearance in six weeks meant that Rotherham were at the height of their exposure and their fortunes picked up with a good game at the City Ground.

A terrible record against Nottingham Forest looked like continuing as two first half goals gave the home side a match winning position. However, a fine second half display saw Rotherham fight back with goals from Darren Byfield and Martin Butler that gave the Millers a share of the spoils.

Rotherham 0-1 Sunderland (25th October 2004)

Over a year later and the Millers were in dire straits without a win in the new league season. The last thing they needed were table topping Champions elect Sunderland coming to town.

Thanks to the heroics of Mike Pollitt, Rotherham held Sunderland for much of the game before an offside goal from Dean Whitehead was enough to give the travelling Black Cats the points.

Rotherham 1-0 Leeds (29th November 2004)

A month later and there was still no Rotherham win and when newly relegated Leeds came to town they threatened to tank the Millers hitting the woodwork three times within ten minutes.

However, they could not get that vital goal and against all odds, Rotherham grabbed a goal late on and survived the inevitable onslaught to secure their first win of the season at the 21st attempt!
Goal hero

Rotherham 2-2 Sheffield United (11th December 2004)

It was consecutive home games on telly for the Millers as Sheffield United made the short trip to the Millers. They too started very brightly and took their chances taking a two goal lead, one of the scorers being Paul Shaw who had spent time on loan at Rotherham earlier in the season.

Rotherham had developed a fighting spirit though and once again came back from a two goal deficit spearheaded by the goals of faithful duo Chris Swailes and Martin McIntosh and almost sneaked a win on their last appearance to date!

So overall a poor record on Sky but the Millers can boast a much better record on ITV Digital, the company that stole rights from Sky and then went famously bust leaving many Football Legaue clubs without money that had been budgeted for.

Four of the games in the 01/02 season were shown on ITV Digital and Rotherham remained unbeaten, all of them against teams who have since played in the Premiership.

Rotherham 1-1 Sheffield United (23rd August 2001)

This was the first of three home games with the Blades that were featured on TV and it came early in Rotherham's Division One life. Rotherham's performance was outstanding and they took an early lead thanks to a Rob Scott header.
Monkey

United struck back just before half time through a penalty but the second half continued with the Millers on top and they should have beaten their neighbours.

Rotherham 2-1 Portsmouth (12th October 2001)

A week after the Millers bagged their first win in ten attempts back in Division One, they made it consecutive wins and were taking a shine to appearing on ITV!

In a pulsating game against an average Pompey team, Peter Crouch cancelled out an Andy Monkhouse goal and it took a last Chris Beech winner to seal victory with what was an outstanding right footed curling effort.

Birmingham 2-2 Rotherham (4th November 2001)

This match is when Rotherham came of age in Division One as they visited a hostile atmosphere at St Andrew's and came out of it with a great performance to their name. 5000 travelling Millers fans were sent crazy when Alan Lee headed his first goal of the season to put the Millers in front.

However, a Guy Branston own goal and a Geoff Horsfield strike gave Birmingham a lead. Immediately after Horsfield's goal, Rotherham equalised thanks to Chris Swailes. It would have been the Millers if anyone who would have got the winning goal but in the end it finished 2-2.

West Brom 1-1 Rotherham (7th April 2001)

It was a second trip to the West Midlands where the Millers ended their ITV Digital career and an equally inspiring performance gave them a much needed point in their relegation battle against a West Brom team who resided in the top two!

In an electric atmosphere in the Hawthorns, the home team went in front thanks to a Bob Taylor goal. However, the Millers once again fought back and a Darren Byfield goal levelled matters. Once again, Rotherham looked likeliest to get the winning goal but it was West Brom who actually got the ball in. In a massive stroke of luck, Chris Sedgwick was there to clear the ball and with the linesman not up with play, Ronnie Moore's men had a lucky escape!
