Gino led from the early stages forging ahead with a string of high marks. He looked irreplacable at the top until a run of poor form, coinciding with a transfer to the Vital site, threatened to undermine his previously good form. However he managed to steady the ship and drag himself over the line.
But, and there is always a but in these write-ups, no doubt Gino will be sat at his computer screen asking himself a few questions, or one in particular. It's a question that we have been raising from pretty early on. Can Gino be classed as a really true champion with no weekly wins? How much credibility will he get from his peers whilstever there is a zero in that weekly win column?
What might also be quite worrying for Gino is that his success was secured by a loss of form of Masta_2009 rather than a good run of form by him. No doubt that will be troubling Masta more as in week 19 doubles he threw himself well and truly in the mixer and with a genuine chance of catching a faltering Gino. Pressure affects us all in different ways and if Masta takes a look at his form since Week 19 he will be truly devastated. He now has to pick himself up and hope that his effort for Week 24 will be enough to see him hold on to second place.
Talking of people bottling it when it matters, Markthemiller is hanging on to 5th place by the skin of his teeth. In truth Mark should be happy with a top five finish, over 24 rounds that is no mean feat, but with him being in the top two for so long but never managing to get double points Mark must have regrets. With one week to go, here's wishing him the best of luck.
Taking advantage of poor form from other people and compounding it with a great run of his own his Blockheads. He has proper steamrollered everyone before him and is breathing down Masta's neck. With the Championship race over, all the focus will lie in the race for second next week..... Well done to Tony260674 who won this week with an effort of "News reaches David James of a coach crash on the M1 involving Paul Robinson, Robert Green, Chris Kirkland, Scott Carson, Mike Pollitt, Nigel Martyn, Richard Wright, Kelvin Davies and the Maltby reserve keeper.". That had all the judges laughing but this victory may not heal the wounds that Tony will be nursing as when he left the competition he was in second place and a major player. Now he is a nobody.
Finally, Millersmad are pleased to announce the prizes for the top three placings of this year's competition. 1st place and therefore Gino will receive a one-off never to be made again Rotherham United prototype football shirt. A must for any Rotherham fan, or anyone with Ebay. 2nd place will receive a genuine Rotherham United watch and third place will receive official club videos of the league wins against Oldham and Tranmere this season! All very exciting stuff. We're not sure how we're gonna get them to you yet, Rich is thinking of summat!!
